Windows XP Text to Speech

Microsoft Sam's Songs

From Jonathan Hearn | Sep 20, 2005

This is more of a little known fun activity than an easter egg.

1: click on start menu
2: open control panel
3: click sound speech and audio devices or speech (make sure your speakers are turned on.)
4: select Microsoft Sam as your voice selection (I've only ever tried Microsoft Sam, but others may work as well.)
5: type 'oooooooo. oooooooo. ououoouuuo ououoouuuo oooooooo.' without the apostrophes into the 'preview text' box.
6: set the voice speed to 7 or between Normal and Fast
7: click preview voice

For some reason, Microsoft Sam pronounces a string of vowels with insensible blabbering at different tones. This can be fun to try and make songs out of like the one above.

Other songs I've come up with are yooooootrogoooo, trogoooo u trogoooo. yooooootrogoooo, u. u. trogoooo. at speed 9 and to a lesser extent gigooggtau giiiiooo. gigooggtau ioi a, gie gie giigotudu. du, i. io a. also at speed 9. The last one doesn't contain very many strings of vowels so it loses its sense of quick repition, and is not as good as the other two.

This works great in DECtalk-based speech systems, such as TextAssist.
