Super Mario Sunshine N64 - Secret Book

Suggested by Sokana - 15 Dec 2005

1. Unlock Noki Bay.
2. Unlock level 3 ('Red Coins in a Bottle').
3. Start the level, go all the way to the bottom of the bottle.
4. Go behind the stone structure where there is a red coin.
5. You will see two holes cut into the stone. In one hole is a door.
6. Go into first-person view by pressing Y. Carefully maneuver the camera. There will be a book behind the door.

I have been told that somehow you can open the door, but I've tried every button, and can't get the door to open. Some gamers reckon the book has Japanese writing saying, "You have no life. Signed, Shigeru Miyamoto."

This book was actually used in a the red coins in a bottle mission, but only in the japanese version. You had to retrieve the book then bring it back to the old man. That is why the book is there. But it really does say You have no life, signed, Shigeru Miyamoto. Jake - Aug 7 2011 4:23PM

I don't think i'ts possible to open the book, I think they just put it there as an unused item or an easter egg, like the hidden train in Super Mario Galaxy. (But I did here somewhere that in the Japanese version of the game, you have to retrieve the book for the old man and then he will give you a shine sprite) this is probably incorrect though... koro oro - Jun 5 2011 5:47AM

Also... "you need a key go behind the waterfall than go to the book and read the book and it says down the waterfall and than you go down the water fall and than you underwater and you to a secret place and than you go to a test lvl than you get your 121th star" - Henry. that also isnt true, beta is UNUSED! i already go to the waterfall before and nothing (before i knew about this book thingy) face it...no 121th star Burger Spinia - Apr 12 2010 9:36PM

Actually...i dont think all of this is a "you have no life,YOU HAVE NO FAMILY!" or something like that, i reached to the book and it cant be grabed, some mario wiki says that the book could be an easter egg, no mention of japanese version event, you have no life and all of that. I got it! i opened the book, but i dont know how. All i know is that you have to use a combination of buttons, but i forget which ones. Sorry! But it does say "You have no life" in japanese. rawwr - Feb 24 2009 11:39AM

I think it's the insruction booklet Mario was talking about in HOTEL MARIO "If You Need Help, Check out the enclosed booklet." Mr. Smith - Jan 2 2009 1:24PM

yea, i found the book but I can't get in. Micheal - Sep 24 2008 4:07AM

I think that the book says "You have no life" too. When I was like 7 years old, Ifound a glitch that let me go behind the hillside cave secret door in bianco hills. I could never do it again Onestop - Jun 21 2008 1:13PM

you have to go through the wall above the door carfully and you can get to the book and look at it, but i cant figure out how to open the book. bugety-bugety-boo - Jan 1 2008 5:47PM

By accident I figured out how to get to the book. I'm not sure how to open it. What you do is you go above the doorway in the cave adjacent to the one with the book and kind of push against above the doorway and there is a glitch that will let you in. It's hard to do, because the door stops you, and then if you go too far, you end up on top of the thing. But anyways, once you get inside just navigate through to the book. The problem is you run out of air fast and it is hard to see the book, much less figure out how to open it, or whatever. Tony - Jan 1 2008 5:11PM
