The Orbitor device can amplify sounds up to 300 feet away - even behind closed doors to a certain extent. You may hear that this device cannot listen through walls, but I can tell you it does. My son has this gadget, while sitting outside of our hotel, he pointed the device at different rooms and we could hear some of the conversations going on.
